What Is the Difference Between 3D, 4D, and 5D Ultrasound?
One reason families choose the Deluxe Experience is that you aren't limited to a single type of ultrasound image.
A 3D ultrasound creates a still, three-dimensional image of your baby. This can provide a much different view than the traditional black-and-white 2D ultrasound images you may be used to seeing during pregnancy.
A 4D ultrasound takes those three-dimensional images and displays them in real time. Depending on what your baby is doing, you may get to watch movements such as stretching, yawning, moving their hands, or changing facial expressions.
5D, also called HD Live, uses enhanced lighting and shading to create additional depth and a more lifelike appearance.
During the Deluxe Experience, we use these different imaging modes throughout the session to capture a variety of views of your baby.

What Happens If Baby Doesn't Show Their Face?
Babies don't always cooperate with our plans.
Your baby's position can make a big difference in the images we're able to capture during a 3D or 4D ultrasound. Sometimes a baby may have their hands in front of their face, be facing the wrong direction, or simply decide they aren't ready for pictures that day.
If your baby doesn't show their face during your Deluxe Experience, the package includes a free 30-minute rescan.
That gives us another opportunity to try for those facial images instead of making one appointment your only chance.
When Should You Schedule a 3D/4D Ultrasound?
The Deluxe Experience is available from approximately 25 to 36 weeks of pregnancy.
For many pregnancies, the late second trimester and early third trimester can provide a nice balance between developed facial features and enough room around the baby to capture clear images.
Every pregnancy and every baby is different, though. Baby's position, gestational age, and the amount of fluid surrounding the baby can all affect what we're able to see.

Is This the Same as a Medical Ultrasound?
No. The ultrasounds at Breathtaking Moments are elective and intended for personal viewing and keepsake purposes.
Your 3D, 4D, or 5D ultrasound does not replace the diagnostic ultrasounds or prenatal care provided by your doctor, midwife, or other healthcare provider. We require our clients to remain under the care of an OB provider during pregnancy.
The purpose of an elective ultrasound is different: it gives you additional time to see your baby, watch their movements, share the experience with loved ones, and create keepsakes from your pregnancy.
